Yes, there is a third place match at the 2026 World Cup.
After their semi-final defeats, France and England will play the World Cup bronze match on Saturday afternoon; France lost to Spain on Tuesday, while England lost to Argentina on Wednesday.
Before the semi-final defeat, France had won each of their six matches at the 2026 World Cup, outscoring their opponents 16-2. As for individual highlights, striker Kylian Mbappé tallied eight goals – which is tied with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi for the most in the tournament – and three assists, while Michael Olise racked up a tournament-high five assists.
Meanwhile, England went 5-1-0 before being eliminated in the semi-finals. Star striker Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham each scored six goals and had one assist in this tournament, with each also scoring two braces; Kane scored twice against Croatia on June 17 and against DR Congo on July 1, while Bellingham scored twice against Mexico on July 5 and against Norway on July 11.
The third place match has been part of the World Cup since 1934, which was the second men’s World Cup in history, excluding the 1950 World Cup. Croatia defeated Morocco 2–1 in the third place match of the 2022 World Cup.
