While we wait Grand Theft Auto 6someone apparently managed to carry Grand Theft Auto 5 to the Nintendo Switch.
The port was apparently created by M0jso and posted to Reddit, where the images apparently show a native v2699 (2023) version of the 13-year-old game, running on the original Switch, albeit quite poorly.
The performance overlay shows the frame rate maxing out at 22 FPS and dropping to 11 FPS in some places, but it seems playable.

One user explained that the images were deleted some time ago, but it appears the project is underway again. M0jso presented more videos on X, explaining that rendering can be broken in some places, crashes are common, but they apparently managed to play GTA 5 on a real Switch console.
However, overall, performance seems mediocre and the chances of the game reaching console or PC level quality seem slim. It made me wonder what GTA6 might look like it would run on the Nintendo Switch 2, a more advanced system featuring 4K and 1440p resolutions and 60 FPS.
As of now, Rockstar hasn’t announced plans to port the game to Switch 2 – a PC version hasn’t been announced either – but we’ve seen demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 And Hogwarts Legacy running on console with minor frame rate issues.
That being said, GTA6 will be a massive game, with a map perhaps even larger than Cyberpunk 2077 And GTA 5‘s. Not to mention the dense locations and level of detail that the PS5 and Xbox Series X will also have to contend with.
While the game’s performance specs have yet to be revealed, reports have claimed that it is likely to run at 30 FPS on PS5 consoles due to CPU limitations, which could make the likelihood of a Switch 2 port rather slim.
According to Digital Foundry, GTA6 running at 60 FPS on current gen might push it, but a 40 FPS mode might be possible.
There’s still just under five months until the game launches on November 19, so we’ll be able to learn more about performance, potential graphics modes, and even get a third trailer soon.
