The letter says the party should publish the names of all candidates who will be its endorsed candidates
ISLAMABAD:
Jailed senior leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday urged the party leadership to participate in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, asking the party to field PTI-backed candidates despite legal uncertainty surrounding its status.
According to party sources, jailed PTI leaders, including Dr Yasmin Rashid and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, have sent a letter to the party’s president and general secretary demanding that the party remain in the electoral process.
The message was relayed to executives through their legal counsel.
According to the contents of the letter, the imprisoned leaders held consultations on the AJK elections before reaching a consensus on the issue.
“We have held consultations on the elections in Azad Kashmir and have reached a conclusion,” the letter said.
“We have decided that candidates supported by the PTI should participate in the electoral process,” he adds.
The letter further urges the party to publicly announce the names of all candidates who would contest the elections with the support of the PTI.
“The party should publish the names of all candidates who will be its endorsed candidates,” the letter said.
The call comes as the PTI announced that it would not contest the AJK elections under the current political circumstances, saying it would stay away from the electoral process until normalcy is restored in the region.
