Jesse Tyler Ferguson spoke warmly about his former Modern family His co-star Frances Anderson’s decision to leave acting and pursue a music career, and made it clear that he couldn’t be more proud of the direction she’s taking.
Talk to E! News At the 2026 Tony Awards on June 7, Ferguson, 50, reflected as he watched the 19-year-old, who played his on-screen daughter on the long-running sitcom and recently changed her name from Aubrey Anderson-Emmons to mark her new musical chapter, chart her own course.
“I’m so proud of her, she’s really blossomed,” he said.
“She actually loves musical theater. That’s why we bonded, even when she was four or five years old. So the fact that she’s still interested in singing is such that I feel like her father and I’m very proud of her.”
Ferguson was at the Tonys with her husband Justin Mitka, and although Frances has since stepped away from the screen Modern family finished, the link between the two clearly is not.
Their shared love of musical theater was present from the start of their working relationship, which made his move into music a sort of coming full circle for Ferguson.
