Madonna refused to confirm or deny whether Kylie Minogue would feature on her next album Confessions II, and she did so with the kind of smirk that suggests the answer might well be yes.
The two pop icons appeared together on the BBC show The Graham Norton Showaired on Friday, June 26, when host Graham Norton put them both in the hot seat.
“There are rumors that Kylie will be there Confessions II. Do you confirm this rumor?” he asked Madonna directly. The 67-year-old replied that it was her “job to be mysterious.”
Minogue, 58, burst out laughing and observed that Madonna is “good at deflecting,” which, in non-denial terms, is quite a contribution.
The appearance brought together two of pop’s most enduring figures, and the chemistry between them was unmistakable.
The couple reflected on their shared moment at Madonna’s Celebration Tour concert in Los Angeles in May 2024, where they performed Minogue’s hit. I can’t get you out of my head together.
“What a moment. I really loved it,” Minogue said.
Minogue had spoken to PEOPLE in December about the possibility of a studio collaboration, saying at the time that no discussions had taken place, but leaving the door wide open.
“Obviously I would,” she said of working with Madonna.
“So there’s been no discussion, but if it were to happen, that would be great.” Apparently a lot has happened since December.
Confessions IIscheduled for July 3, promises to be an important moment for Madonna.
Elsewhere in Norton’s interview, she was shown working in the studio and reflecting on her creative process.
“It’s kind of like I’m possessed. Ideas come when I’m not trying too hard,” she said. She also described the track One step away as coming “from the soul”.
Whether or not Minogue’s voice will appear on July 3 remains, for now, delightfully unconfirmed.
