Joško Gvardiol has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City until 2031.
The Croatian defender joined City in 2023 and had two years remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
“As soon as I knew that City wanted to renew my contract, I immediately felt that this was what I wanted,” Gvardiol said. “It’s the best club in the world.
“The players we have here are incredible. This is a world-class team, young and full of potential. I truly believe we will have great success in the years to come.”
Gvardiol, 24, joined City from Leipzig for 90 million euros ($99.2 million), which ranks him among the most expensive defenders in football history. He won five major trophies, including the Premier League title and the FA Cup during his time at the club.
“Josko is a player the Club truly believes in. He is young, an exceptional professional and already one of the best defenders in the world,” said City director of football Hugo Viana. “Manchester City is committed to retaining our best talent, which is why we are so pleased that this new deal has been agreed.”
