Augusta National Golf Club has several rules for its golfers and customers, both said and unwritten.
Arizona State University’s male golf coach Matt Thurmond learned one of these hard rules this week before 2025 Masters tournament.
Thurmond, which was with the Sun Devils Since 2016, has been withdrawn from the golf course during a training session Tuesday after he went to say hello to the former ASU player, Kevin Yu, who is doing his Masters debut this year.

The reason for his withdrawal? Thurmond wore shorts on the course.

“My bad is a mistake I made,” said Thurmond later, via Golfweek. “I want to follow the rules here when I’m in Augusta and I do everything correctly. Changing to be here and enjoy everything here. I just made a mistake.”
Thurmond is in Georgia this weekend to support Josele Ballester, Senior of the Asu, who obtained his exemption to compete in the Masters after winning the American amateur in August.
