Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday visited the Margalla Road and Expressway Expansion Project site and ordered that the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road be completed by July 31.
Officials say the 1.7-mile-long project would have a three-lane roadway on both sides, as well as a two-lane service road. The plan also included a GT Road interchange, two underpasses and a bridge to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow.
The Interior Minister, during his visit, inspected the ongoing construction activities and received a detailed briefing on the various components of the project.

Chairman Capital Development Authority, Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
Naqvi asked the authorities to ensure that the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road, which is part of the project, is completed by July 31. He pointed out that the new link would provide an alternative, faster and more accessible route between Islamabad and the highway.
“All resources must be used to complete the project within the stipulated time,” the Interior Minister said, adding that quality, transparency and timeliness were ensured in all government projects.
The officials informed the minister that the project is expected to be completed by December 2026, while the remaining 2.5 kilometer stretch would be executed by the Punjab government.
