Meta Platforms plans to begin testing an AI pendant next year as it lays out a roadmap for wearables in a bid to reverse losses in its hardware division, The information reported Friday, citing a memo.

According to the report, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram is also planning a significant expansion of its AI glasses line and intends to launch a business-focused service called “Wearables for Work.”

The plans were outlined in a memo from Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of wearables.

Meta declined to comment on the report when contacted by Reuters.

The move comes as Meta seeks to bolster its hardware division, Reality Labs, which posted a first-quarter loss of $4.03 billion on revenue of $402 million.

The company targets sales of 10 million wearable devices in the second half of 2026 thanks to new product launches and greater international availability, according to The information.

Meta is already partnering with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica to produce AI-powered smart glasses under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands.

Last year, the company acquired startup Limitless, which makes a pendant-like device capable of recording and transcribing real-world conversations, while accelerating efforts to develop next-generation AI-powered wearable technology.
