United Nations: millions of people in 14 countries are at risk of famine after the United States suddenly stopped emergency food aid, the United Nations warned.
The World Food Program (WFP), which was already struggling with a 40% drop in this year’s financing, said it was informed that the new American aid stops at 14 countries.
In comments on X, the agency did not appoint these countries.
“If it is implemented, this could represent a death sentence for millions of people facing hunger and extreme famine,” said the agency.
WFP is not the only United Nations Corps by American funding reductions, as the United States under President Donald Trump turns inward and stop trying to help other countries in the world as part of an isolationist program.
The Trump administration told the United Nations population, an agency dedicated to the promotion of sexual and reproductive health, which it ended two programs, the organization told AFP on Monday.
One of the programs was for Afghanistan, while the other involved Syria.
Other countries, in addition to the United States, have also announced financing reductions in recent months, causing an alarm among NGOs and international organizations.
The Trump administration has largely emptied USAID, the main organization of American humanitarian assistance. Previously, it had an annual budget of $ 42.8 billion, or 42% of all funds paid worldwide.
