Country music superstar Morgan Wallen takes the stage at Acrisure Stadium for back-to-back stadiums.
But before the fans reach the stadium, bees invade the stadium. The Fine Family Apiary in Monongahela was summoned Wednesday to get rid of the buzzing intruders.
Company owner Al Fine, who has been dealing with bee removal for more than four decades, estimated the swarm weighed about 4 to 5 pounds, or about 12,000 to 15,000 bees.
The beekeepers took about 90 minutes to remove them all. Warm weather conditions made removal more difficult as the bees were more active.
Fine placed the swarm in a “nuc box,” a temporary hive, then transported all the bees to his garden. The bees will then be transferred to life-size equipment.
According to Penn State Extension, swarming is the method by which bees reproduce.
This involves the migration of the queen bee and about half of the worker bees out of their original colony to form a new nest; they stay temporarily in groups, looking for a new place to settle.
Fine said, “Usually when bees are in a swarm, they are pretty docile. »
Wallen is scheduled to perform at Acrisure Stadium on June 5-6.
