BBC has released the trailer and first images for new legal drama The separationwhich will be a spin-off series from the popular drama The split with Nicola Walker.
Across six episodes, the new drama will follow a family story set in the high-pressure world of Manchester’s wealthy divorce circuit.
In short, we combine all the heart of The split but with a new setting, characters and plots.
Created by Ursula Rani Sarma rather than original series creator Abi Morgan, The split will serve as a springboard for new material rather than The separation being a continuation.
Watch the trailer below, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the new series looks even more intense than what we’ve seen before, and means a must-see watch is in our hands.
The Split Up trailer is a far cry from the BBC’s The Split, but the stakes seem even higher.
Look on it
In the clip above, we follow Aria Kishan (Ritu Arya), a rising star from Kishan Law. She is about to step up and take over from her father Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and Aria’s siblings Maya (Aysha Kala), Kav (Arian Nik) and his partner Neal (Danny Ashok).
As the BBC explains: “The death of Aria’s mother has shed new light on Dhruv’s succession plans, and he is beginning to question whether his daughter can, or should, shoulder the responsibility alone.
“Aria’s relationship is also under scrutiny, with marriage to her long-term partner Neal on the horizon, but with their personal and professional lives so intertwined, it’s unclear whether their relationship can withstand more pressure – a problem made even worse when a former secret flame (Dimitri Leonidas) arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.
“Alongside her siblings Maya and Kav, whose relationships and loyalties are far from simple, Aria must overcome the divisions that divide family and those we love – and ask herself: Who should you live your life for?”
Tense! In addition to this, we can expect appearances from Lenny Henry, Jane Horrocks and Jameela Jamil.
The separation expected to come to BBC and BBC iPlayer later in 2026.
