The first full trailer for the new BBC crime drama Mint has been released (which you can check out below), and I can honestly say I’m not aware of what’s going on.
Because there’s nothing I need more than a new fear in the back of my head that keeps me up at night! However, actors Emma Laird, Ben Coyle-Larner, Sam Riley, Laura Fraser and Lindsay Duncan appear to be taking their tricky subject matter in a whole new direction.

All episodes will be shown on BBC iPlayer from 6am BST on Monday April 20, with the first two airing on BBC One from 9pm that evening. But what exactly are we letting ourselves in for?
First trailer for BBC crime drama Mint is creepy, atmospheric and shrouded in secrets
Look on it
While the trailer above doesn’t exactly reveal anything, here’s everything we know about Mint so far.
We begin with Shannon (Laird), the daughter of her area’s dominant crime family, who is desperate for romance in the shadow of her father, Dylan (Riley).
Shannon falls in love with Arran (Carner), a member of a rival crime family newly arrived in town. Their love story presents an undeniable bond that changes their lives forever, but not everyone in their lives sees it the same way.
While Shannon and Arran navigate their forbidden romance, elsewhere, things implode for Shannon’s family. Dylan decides to resign as head of the family for mysterious reasons.
Basically, it’s like Romeo and Juliet Channel 4 meeting Humansif the aesthetic of the trailer clip is anything to go by. There are bound to be layers and layers to Regan’s world-building, thus defining Mint just like a crime drama is most likely an understatement of things.
I’m all for the return of edgy fantasy to mainstream television, so if you’re looking for a thriller that’s more experimental art than formula, I think you’ve found it.
