- Insomniac Games has shared an in-depth look at Marvel’s Wolverine
- The latest gameplay trailer showcases bloodier combat and reveals new story details.
- Jean Gray will also fight alongside Wolverine in cooperative battles
Sony’s latest state of play offers an in-depth look at Marvel’s Wolverinefeaturing new story details, brutal action, and mutant squads, and has established itself as one of my most anticipated games of the year.
In case you missed it, in the new gameplay trailer, James “Logan” Howlett, aka Wolverine, is on a mission to save a group of mutants who have been hunted down and captured by a cybernetic militia called the Reavers, who plan to deliver the mutants to Bolivar Trask.
It is also confirmed that Logan will not be alone in his quest, as his fellow mutant, Jean Grey, will fight alongside him in cooperative combat, although it does not appear that she will be playable solo.
“The situation is dire and help is limited. Mutants live in the shadows, fearing those who hunt them, while the rest of society ignores their existence,” we can read on the PlayStation Blog. “The only ones potentially capable of protecting their own are Team
Unlike Insomniac Spiderman games, Wolverine will be a bloody affair as Logan uses his abilities to stalk, ambush, and shred enemies with his claws. He will also have special combat moves called “Techniques” such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, while Jean will provide his powerful telekinetic abilities, which also present some critical strike opportunities.
Look on it
“These are devastating finishing moves that Wolverine can perform alone or with other characters; they are takedown opportunities worth keeping an eye on during a frenzied fight,” the developer said.
The trailer also confirmed that other, less friendly mutants like Mystique and Sabretooth will be introduced, but the mention of performing finishing moves with “other characters” besides Jean seems to suggest that we’ll meet others along the way. Maybe Cyclops? Thug? Gambit?
Wolverine can also parry, and each successful attack, parry, and kill will build Logan’s Rage, which can be used for stronger attacks, activating his healing factor or triggering Tier 3 Rage, which Insomniac describes as “a stylized monochromatic explosion of savagery inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White, and Blood series.”
