The Chicago Bears appear to have one foot over the Illinois state line as they took a major step to move to Indiana earlier this month – much to the dismay of the team’s fans.

WWE NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, an Oak Park, Illinois native and big Bears fan, was still a little annoyed with the potential of the team moving to Hammond, Indiana.

“I don’t know what to say, other than, what’s the F?” D’Angelo told PK Press Club Digital when asked what he thought about a possible move. “I mean, I don’t get it. I get it but I don’t get it. It’s literally one of the oldest historic franchises in the NFL. It’s the ‘Chicago Bears’. The ‘Chicago Bears.’

“And I understand that, maybe don’t go and move to Arlington Heights, which is not that far from the city, the money, the taxes, I understand. You have to do what’s best for anything. But to leave Illinois completely? That’s just crazy to me. The Indiana Bears? That’s just awful. That doesn’t sound good. I’m in Florida now, so I guess I don’t get to go to as many games, but still, man, I don’t know because there’s something about going to town and it’s right on Lake Michigan. The whole scene, the story behind it, it all makes sense and for them to give up, it seems, so easily – it’s not a good decision.

Bears executives said the potential to have a “world-class stadium” in Hammond would transform the region and connect “northwest Indiana and south Chicago through the Loop and through the neighborhoods and suburbs that extend north of the city.”

Even despite the frustration, D’Angelo still had some hope for the team this season. He said he thinks the 2026 season will “say a lot” about where the team is under quarterback Caleb Williams and head coach Ben Johnson.

“I mean, I think it’s always Super Bowl or bust. I think the Bears and Caleb Williams showed what they can do and I think they surprised everyone,” he said. “We were kind of the underdogs of the NFL last year. I would say, the ‘Bad News Bears.’

“What have they won, seven or eight plays with two minutes left in the fourth quarter? That takes a lot of cajónes. And I think for Caleb Williams to be as young as he is, to do the kinds of things that he does, to do veteran things in the game, I think that says a lot about character. Especially Ben Johnson as a coach. I think this season will say a lot. I think some Bears fans are a little skeptical because we’ve had some good random seasons and then we just I think this season is a test and if we do well, we can breathe a little bit and we can say, okay, it’s set in stone.
