Jaxon Smith-Njigba entered the 2025 seasons as a potential star, and he has far exceeded that expectation.
The Seattle Seahawks receiver led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards while accumulating 119 receptions, including 10 for scores.
The Ohio State alum’s 14.5 yards per touch was the most in the NFL, and his play helped both Sam Darnold reach another level and the Seahawks bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Seattle.

Smith-Njigba’s stellar play earned him the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, but so far the material says otherwise.
In a video posted to his Instagram Stories, the recipient showed that his trophy stated that he was the 2025 “Defensive Player of the Year (sic)”.
“I really want to report them. This is getting disrespectful, guys,” he said in the video. “Defense? Come on bro. A word? Dude.”

Smith-Njigba later posted a selfie with the caption: “This is getting disrespectful at this point. Just keep the award at this point. Leave it in the history books though.”
It’s not like Smith-Njigba can just hand the trophy to Myles Garrett, who was named Defensive Player of the Year — the trophy is named after the receiver.
It will therefore be up to the NFL to issue another one to its rightful owner.

Let’s hope there are no typos in Smith-Njigba’s mega-contract that he signed for $168.6 million, the highest amount ever given to a wide receiver.
