KP IG says 15 terrorists killed, several others injured in retaliatory operation

Nine policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Diyar Khan, were martyred and 28 others, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, were injured after terrorists attacked Khazina Banda police check post in Hangu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday evening, while police killed 15 terrorists and injured several others in a reprisal operation, the Inspector General (IG) of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). » Zulfiqar Hameed said.

According to the IG, terrorists attacked the Khazina Banda police checkpoint with heavy weapons. Police personnel stationed at the station “fought bravely and mounted a strong defense” against the attack.

He said: “Additional police officers, led by the SDPO City, were immediately dispatched to reinforce the checkpoint.” However, the terrorists had already laid an ambush along the road and targeted the reinforcements, causing serious damage to the lead armored personnel carrier (APC).

Despite what the IG described as difficult conditions, officers and staff “fought the enemy with exceptional courage and professionalism.” He said that “15 terrorists were killed and several others injured during the retaliatory operation.”

The IG said DSP Diyar Khan was martyred in the prolonged exchange of fire with eight other policemen, while 28 officers and personnel, including DSP Mujahid Hussain, were injured.

He added that the exchange of fire between the terrorists and the police continued.

Paying tribute to the police personnel, Zulfiqar Hameed said, “The sons of KP Police stood like rocks against the enemy in extremely difficult and trying circumstances and embraced martyrdom.”

He said recommendations would be made for the department’s highest honors to be conferred on the martyred personnel and added that he would personally meet the families of the martyrs to offer condolences and pay tribute to the injured officers and staff.

“The morale of KP Police is high and their resolve is as firm as a rock. This war to completely eliminate terrorists from all corners of the province will continue with full strength and determination,” the IG said.
