- The president of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser confirms that the support for the original switch will continue after the launch of the Switch 2
- The switch will not get a price drop, but Bowser says: “The door is open to the possibility”
- He also hopes that “over time and with good games”, users will want to go to switch 2
The new improved Nintendo 2 switch is soon launched, but Nintendo has confirmed that the care of the original switch will continue.
In a new interview with the Washington Post after the Big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, was questioned on the plans of the company concerning the original switch in the future.
Unfortunately, he does not seem to have the intention of reducing the price of older devices like the switch so soon, but, according to Bowser, “the door is open to the possibility”.
“What I would say is that we will continue to observe consumers and how they get involved and enter the platform at different levels to try to really understand what the future might look like,” he continued.
“Here is the other point. We have an installation base [for the Switch] of 150 million units more. We will probably announce more on May 8, when we have our next call for results. We want to keep these players committed. Not all can be ready to jump to change level 2. “
Although upcoming games like Mario Kart World,, Duskbloods,, And Donkey Kong Bananza will be exclusive to Switch 2, the original switch still gets a lot of new titles, in particular Pokémon Legends ZA And Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
“I hope that over time and with the right games, it will be convincing for them to want to come to Nintendo Switch 2,” added Bowser. “We know that there is a group of consumers who will be absolutely ready the first day to come on the platform.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be published on June 5, 2025 for $ 449.99 / £ 395.99 or $ 499.99 / £ 429.99 for a Mario Kart World pack.
Pre-orders should open the opening on April 8 in the United Kingdom, but Nintendo delayed the pre-orders of Switch 2 in the United States from its original date on April 9 when it assess the impact of the prices imposed by the Trump administration.
