Norway is scheduled to face Senegal in their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday evening at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Several hours before the whistle blew on the field, Norwegian fans gathered en masse in Times Square, in the heart of New York, to salute their team in due form.

Hundreds of Norwegian fans performed “Viking Row” to provide adequate support to their country’s best football players. Max Bretos, the voice of Major League Soccer’s LA FC, posted a video on his X account showing the flock of fans in Times Square.

“Imagine going to Times Square, New York, to see ‘Les Misérables’ and coming across this…” he wrote on X.

Norway enters the Group I match in first place after a resounding victory against Iraq. The team has yet to face France in the group stage, which will take place in the final.

Senegal will really have to dig deep to come away with a point. Containing soccer star Erling Haaland is a mission in itself.

“Yes, Haaland, but it’s not Haaland alone,” Senegal reserve goalkeeper Mory Diaw said through an interpreter. “Haaland alone, he can’t do anything. He needs his teammates, so it’s not how to stop Haaland. It’s up to us to prepare for the game against Norway.”

Senegal head coach Pepe Thiaw said that in order to keep Norway at bay, Haaland must first be neutralized.

“Haaland obviously needs no introduction,” Thiaw said. “We have good defenders. We have very high level defenders who have played in very high level competitions and who have met attackers of this caliber.”
