NYT Strands today (game #810) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #810, are…
- BOUNDLESS
- VAST
- EPIC
IMMENSE - HUGE
- ASTRONOMICAL
- SPANGRAM: ITSBIG
- My rating: Hard
- My rating: 1 clue
Today’s search was for words describing something huge, linked by the ironically small spangram ITSBIG.
Before I properly started today’s game, I wasted a ridiculous amount of time trying to connect the word pistachio. After abandoning that quest, I saw BOUNDLESS, but I still wasn’t sure of the theme, so I took a hint – which made me feel really stupid for not spotting the theme.
Today’s search contains one of my most hated words, WHOPPING, which is only used by journalists in connection with large amounts of money. It’s such a cliché word. It’s supposed to indicate that the sum in question is incredibly huge, but if that’s the case, why do we need the word HUGE in front to tell us that, surely its enormity would already be obvious – after all, “a million dollars” is exactly the same thing as “a HUGE million dollars”. It’s a very low level irritation, I admit!
