Oil tax exceeds Rs1.2tr in nine months

ISLAMABAD:

The government collected over Rs 1.2 trillion from consumers as petroleum tax in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, while over Rs 35 billion was recovered as Climate Support Levy (CSL), according to official documents.

The documents further reveal that electricity consumers across the country have paid over Rs 1.9 trillion in taxes in the last three years through the Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs).

According to records, the government collected Rs145 billion in oil levy in July 2025, Rs115 billion in August, Rs111 billion in September, Rs145 billion in October, Rs151 billion in November, Rs157 billion in December, Rs124 billion in January 2026, Rs120 billion in February and Rs137 billion in March.

The officials also revealed that Rs 35 billion has so far been collected from consumers under the CSL on petroleum products, while the total collections under this head are expected to reach Rs 51 billion by the end of the current financial year – June 2026.

Besides, official records of DISCOs revealed that power consumers paid over Rs 1.9 trillion in taxes in the last three financial years. In FY 2022-23, consumers paid Rs 507 billion in taxes, while this increased to Rs 698 billion in FY 2023-24 and over Rs 700 billion in the previous fiscal year.

Among the distribution companies, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) recorded the highest collection, recovering over Rs532 billion over a period of three years. Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) followed with Rs 323 billion and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company with Rs 307 billion.

Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) collected Rs240 billion, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) collected Rs2.32 trillion. Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) collected Rs 151 billion and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) collected Rs 57.58 billion.

Meanwhile, Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) collected Rs 34.46 billion, Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) collected Rs 24.28 billion and Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) recovered Rs 1.55 billion from consumers in the last three years.
