New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has come under fire over the most recent photos released of him and NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
Vrabel said he would leave the team to seek advice. However, he plunged the Patriots into a public relations disaster that began when he fervently denied that the first photo of him and Russini at an Arizona resort showed anything nefarious. He called it “a completely innocent interaction.”

Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman expressed his reaction in an interview with PK Press Club Digital on Thursday. He said he doesn’t think the dark cloud around Vrabel will affect the team from a football standpoint, but that his job depends on the message the organization wants to send.
“That’s my thing when it comes to that,” Merriman said. “He hasn’t broken any laws in the first place, has he? It’s something morally perhaps wrong. Something he will have to deal with about it. I don’t believe, in my opinion, I don’t believe it will be a distraction from football. It will have to be, internally, that, we don’t want to deal with it because it sends a message, but it won’t affect the players in the dressing room and the way he coaches, how they are coached, how they listen. towards him and follow him, and how Vrabel leads.
“As far as football goes, I don’t think it does anything. It really depends on what message you want to send by continuing to move forward with it. That’s what I would say.”

Page Six and TMZ published new photo sets of Vrabel-Russini on Thursday. This prompted a preliminary press conference by Vrabel.
“My previous actions do not meet the standards I hold myself to,” Vrabel said. “My priorities are my family and this football team, in that order. And there’s a balance there that I’m going to create.”
At the end of the press conference, Vrabel was asked to explain why he initially made a statement calling photos of him and Russini at an Arizona resort “laughable” after they were published by the New York Post earlier in April.
“This is a private and personal matter. I don’t think those comments…it was an attempt to protect your family,” Vrabel said.

That was the last question Vrabel answered before leaving the podium and storming out of the room.
