LAHORE:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting on power sector reforms on Saturday, asked the authorities concerned to formulate a comprehensive strategy to stabilize electricity tariffs.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to provide relief to industrial and domestic electricity consumers and directed the concerned officials to take concrete steps in this regard. He also called for significant improvements to the electricity transmission system to reduce line losses.
Highlighting the importance of modernization, the Prime Minister highlighted the use of advanced technologies in the energy sector and ordered the promotion of renewable energy projects to address the country’s energy deficit. He further highlighted the need for improved digital facilities to make payment of electricity bills more convenient for consumers.
The Prime Minister ordered strict measures against electricity theft to be maintained and reiterated that uninterrupted energy supply is essential to promote industrial growth. He said helping domestic consumers remains one of the government’s top priorities.
He added that reforms in the energy sector would be implemented while keeping in mind the broader interests of the public and the industry. During the meeting, officials presented recommendations regarding electricity consumption for both domestic users and the industrial sector.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister of Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Aide special Haroon Akhtar and senior officials of the institutions concerned.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday visited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and briefed him about the security situation in the country, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
According to the PMO statement, Naqvi met the Prime Minister in Lahore, where he briefed him about the security situation in the country and the measures taken in this regard.
The Interior Minister also briefed the Prime Minister about the security arrangements for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final scheduled to be held in Lahore tomorrow (Sunday).
Prime Minister Shehbaz asked Naqvi to make the best possible arrangements for the players, spectators and citizens.
