Prime Minister orders embassies to boost employment abroad

Shehbaz says government provides education and vocational training in line with international standards

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed Pakistani embassies abroad to intensify efforts to identify and secure employment opportunities for the country’s workforce, stressing that the government was committed to expanding overseas employment prospects for qualified and skilled Pakistanis.

Chairing a review meeting on youth employment, the Prime Minister noted that Pakistan’s workforce possessed immense potential and stressed the need to strengthen international outreach to connect skilled workers with global labor markets.

He asked embassies to actively collect and share information on available jobs and required qualifications in host countries.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program to ensure that the workforce, especially the youth, receives vocational training as well as foreign language courses and internationally recognized certifications.

He said the government was providing education and vocational training in line with international standards to enhance the global employability of Pakistan’s highly skilled workforce.

Candidate for SGNU

The candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations, María Fernanda Espinosa, visited the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s House on Monday.

In welcoming María, the Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s long-standing commitment to multilateralism, as well as the great importance it has always attached to the United Nations.

He expressed hope that the next leaders of the United Nations will respect the United Nations Charter, ensure the implementation of Security Council resolutions, respect international law and treaties, and strengthen cooperation among Member States to promote global peace and prosperity.

María praised Pakistan’s role in recent regional peace efforts and praised its active contribution to the United Nations over the decades.

She had previously visited Pakistan in 2019 in her capacity as UNGA President.
