Princess Anne faces dilemma over royal tradition ahead of her son’s wedding

The royal family will reunite for a very special occasion next month and Princess Anne now faces a major dilemma regarding royal tradition.

Peter Philips, the Princess Royal’s eldest son, will marry his fiancée Harriet Sperling for the second time at All Saints Church in Kemble, Cirencester, in an “intimate” celebration.

There are some exceptions made for Peter’s marriage with the king’s approval. For example, divorced couples need permission to marry in a church and Peter was given “vicar’s permission”.

Now the next rule is about Harriet. Since all brides in the royal household wear a tiara at their wedding, perhaps Anne will lend one to her daughter-in-law.

Anne has many options to give Harriet, including the Diamond Scalloped Tiara, Meander Tiara, and Pineflower Aquamarine Tiara.

Harriet does not hold any royal titles and as Peter is a non-working member of the family, she is unlikely to receive one after the marriage.

As for the tiara, each one has sentimental value. The diamond scalloped tiara was a personal gift given to Princess Anne by the World Wide Shipping Group of Hong Kong in 1973.

Usually, tiaras are passed down from generation to generation, so they have unique value.

Harriet may not wear the Festoon tiara since Peter’s first wife, Kelly, wore it. It could be the choice between the Meander tiara and the aquamarine Pineflower tiara.
