ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is reportedly considering a return to parliamentary standing committees as part of a broader internal reassessment of its legislative strategy, party sources said on Thursday.
The sources said the PTI parliamentary party has submitted a key resolution for immediate implementation, which has now been presented to the party lawmakers for consideration and approval.
The resolution would benefit from the support of a majority of parliamentarians. The proposed policy framework identifies the release of party founder Imran Khan and other political prisoners as the central priority of the party.
It also includes demands related to the health, safety and access of the incarcerated leader to his personal doctor.
According to sources, the resolution also envisages that the party will raise its voice more forcefully in parliament, courts and public forums on key political and governance issues.
It further highlights the need to highlight issues such as inflation, unemployment and broader human rights concerns. The document also advises taking legal and constitutional measures against the trial of civilians in military courts.
The sources said the resolution includes a decision to conduct monthly reviews of parliamentary performance.
It also calls for strengthening media discussions, press conferences and public awareness campaigns to make them more effective.
Under the proposed framework, party strategy, walkouts and voting decisions will be implemented in strict accordance with the directives of the party leadership. PTI MPs have been instructed to strictly adhere to party discipline.
According to the resolution, any deviation from party policy will result in disciplinary action.
The sources added that once approved, the resolution will be implemented immediately.
