Rain-related incidents kill 16

ISLAMABAD:

At least 16 people have lost their lives and 38 have been injured across the country in rain and flood-related incidents over the past week.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has emerged as the worst-affected province.

The NDMA, in its latest situation report covering the period June 26 to July 2, said the casualties were caused by heavy monsoon rains, collapsed houses and flash floods.

The 16 victims included five men, four women and seven children, while the injured included 14 men, four women and 20 children. The authority said house collapses and flash floods were the main causes of deaths during the reporting period.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa suffered the highest human toll, recording nine deaths and 26 injuries, making it the province most seriously affected by the ongoing monsoon.

Punjab reported four deaths and nine injuries. The victims included a man, a woman and two children, while the injured included three men, a woman and five children.

In Balochistan, three people were killed, including two women and a child, while three others were injured.

According to the NDMA report, no deaths or injuries were reported from Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir or Islamabad during the reporting period.

The authority said it continues to monitor the evolving weather situation as monsoon rains persist in different parts of the country.
