Richard Osman reveals he was ‘very nervous’ to meet Princess Anne

Broadcaster turned best-selling author Richard Osman said he was “proud to be British” after receiving an OBE from Princess Anne at a special investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The 55-year-old was honored for his services to literature and broadcasting.

Speaking after the ceremony, Osman thanked the UK for shaping his life and career.

“I’m very proud to be from Britain,” he said, adding that the country gave him access to education, health care and creative opportunities.

“I owe this country a huge debt, and I intend to repay as much as I can. »

Despite his years in front of the camera, Osman admitted the moment felt intimidating.

“I felt very nervous walking in there,” he said, joking that he was focused on remembering the formalities: “shake hands, walk back, bow and walk away.”

Being inside Windsor Castle, he added, made the experience “more of a responsibility than an honour”.

Osman first became a household name as co-host of the BBC quiz show. Useless and later face Richard Osman’s House of Gamesfrom which he resigned in March 2026.

It was on the latter that he met his wife, Ingrid Oliver, when she ran as a candidate in 2022.

Osman was one of 67 recipients honored by the Princess Royal that day, alongside comedian Bill Bailey and chef Marcus Wareing, who were both awarded MBEs for their contribution to entertainment and the culinary arts.
