Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed bilateral relations in a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday, the Foreign Ministry said in an X post.

The two leaders also discussed “cooperation in multilateral forums for international peace and security,” the ministry said. Lavrov appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, the statement added.

Dar underlined Pakistan’s determination to continue contributing to efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all issues.

The foreign ministers further reiterated “the importance of maintaining regular high-level engagements” and discussed rescheduling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Russia “to a mutually convenient early date.”

The statement ends with Dar inviting Lavrov to visit Pakistan, with both sides agreeing to stay in touch.

Earlier, the DPM also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to an official statement, Dar “discussed regional developments, ceasefire and Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts.”

He “emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue and engagement to resolve outstanding issues to advance regional peace and stability at the earliest”, while Araghchi “appreciated Pakistan’s consistent and constructive facilitating role in this regard”, the statement added.

The calls come as state media reported that Araghchi was expected to arrive in Islamabad on Friday evening with a small team to participate in a second round of talks with the United States. Meanwhile, the US logistics and security team is already in Islamabad for negotiations, the statement added.

The renewed negotiations were scheduled to take place on Tuesday but never happened, with Iran saying it was not yet ready to commit to participating, and a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance never left Washington.
