Samsung has revealed a handy new feature that frequent travelers will be happy to see: you can now store your passport directly on your Galaxy phone.
In a new partnership with CLEAR, Samsung Electronics America is launching Samsung ID with CLEAR, a digital passport you can add to your Samsung wallet. It is only available to users with a US passport and is limited to domestic, not international, flights.
Samsung ID with CLEAR is designed to make your travel experience faster and smoother, allowing you to present your digital identity at airport security by tapping your phone or scanning a QR code, without needing to present your physical passport.
Once you add your passport to your Samsung Wallet, you can verify your identity at over 250 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints. You can also use it to prove your age at many sports and entertainment venues, making it easier for you to purchase alcoholic beverages and enter age-restricted areas, for example.
I know what you’re thinking: “How secure is Samsung’s new digital passport?” Well, the tech giant makes sure that only you will be able to unlock your ID, as your fingerprint or secure PIN is required to access it. Once you enter your passport information, CLEAR will verify this data and Samsung Knox will manage the hardware and software security, meaning your passport information will be encrypted directly on your device.
While Samsung is a bit late on the digital ID front – Apple launched its own version in November 2025 – the addition of Samsung ID with CLEAR will be a welcome feature for Galaxy phone owners who also travel frequently. That said, the company suggests that you always have your physical passport on hand, just in case you need a backup.
Announcing the feature, Samsung said: “By allowing them to leave their physical credentials in their bag and rely on a secure digital identity, we’re combining the best of convenience and security to help users get where they’re going.” »
How to set up Samsung ID with CLEAR
The process of creating your new digital ID is simple: you’ll just need a valid U.S. passport to get started.
Once you have launched Samsung Wallet on your device, open the “Quick Access” tab, then tap the “+” sign. From there, all you have to do is tap “Digital IDs” and search for “Samsung ID with CLEAR”, where you will need to follow a series of prompts. Once your passport is approved, you will be free to use it and quickly pass through airport security.
