LIV Golf faces possible funding problems after being denied points in the Official World Golf Ranking, a development that could frustrate players.

“The reality is you’re funded throughout the season, and then you work like crazy to create a business and a business plan to keep us going. But it’s no different than any other privately funded business in the history of mankind,” O’Neil said before the golf tour event in Mexico City.

O’Neil reportedly sent an email to his team amid early reports that the season would go on “exactly as planned, uninterrupted and full throttle,” but plans apparently changed and LIV announced that its June tournament in New Orleans had been postponed with a date to be determined.

O’Neil said the prospect of a new business plan “excites” him.

LIV began in 2022 and has produced two major winners: Brooks Koepka, who has since joined the PGA Tour, at the 2023 PGA Championship, and Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 US Open.

LIV Golf has gone from its 54-hole format, a draw for golfers leaving the PGA Tour, to 72 starting this season. Patrick Reed is also ready to join the PGA Tour.
