- DC Studios has released a final trailer for this Supergirl
- This further highlights why it’s no longer called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
- The film starring Milly Alcock will be released on June 26
Less than a month left Supergirl is taking off in theaters around the world – and what better way to celebrate its fast-approaching release date than with a new trailer?
Well, that’s exactly what DC Studios did today (June 3) by revealing a new set of images ahead of the upcoming film’s arrival on June 26. And, if it wasn’t quite clear why the comic book movie was stripped of its “Woman of Tomorrow” subtitle, this latest teaser basically explains it.
Look on it
For those who don’t know: the DC universe (DCU) is strongly inspired by Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowaka the 2021 graphic novel series created by Tom King and Bilquis Eveley.
When initially revealed as part of the original DCU Chapter One movie and TV show lineup, the Milly Alcock-led film had the same name as its comic book counterpart. However, last June, DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that his title had been shortened to Supergirl because he was “fed up” of seeing films with superfluous subtitles.
At the time, it seemed like a strange decision to make. After all, Supergirl was about to directly adapt a story from an existing piece of literature, so abandoning the “Woman of Tomorrow” portion of that tale to the Kara Zor-El facade didn’t seem like a wise decision.

Fast forward to April 2026 and it started to become clear to me that Supergirl wouldn’t be the comic book adaptation I was hoping for. Indeed, the images released as part of its official trailer indicated that it would only be inspired by Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowrather than being a 1:1 translation of the story within its pages.
With the arrival of this third and final preview, I am fully convinced that this is also the case. From the reveal that it’s Clark Kent – aka Kal El, aka Superman – who gives Kara her super-suit and signs that Lobo will have a significant role in this film, to Krem’s seemingly superhuman abilities (Attention : he is just an ordinary individual in the comics), to the large number of vehicles available to his forces (double Warning: they only have one spaceship in the graphic novel), it seems SupergirlThe creative team played fast and loose with its source material.
All of this is to say that my excitement for one of 2026’s many new films hasn’t been dashed by this new trailer. I still look forward to seeing Kara kick ass in a live-action movie that she so desperately deserves, and I’m still waiting Supergirl to contain all the major rhythms of the history of Woman of tomorrow. I just wish it was more of a direct adaptation rather than a reimagining of King and Eveley’s award-winning literary works.
