The government compensates for the reduction in gasoline with an increase in taxes

ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Government has revised the prices of petroleum products, increasing kerosene rates while adjusting petroleum tax structures on petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD).

According to official documents, kerosene prices have been increased by Rs 8.70 per liter, taking the new price to Rs 280.70 per liter from the previous rate of Rs 272.

Meanwhile, the government has significantly increased the tax on petrol by Rs 24.74 per litre. The levy was increased from Rs91.34 to Rs116.08 per litre, offsetting any potential relief for consumers.

On the other hand, the HSD levy was reduced by Rs 24.34 per liter, bringing it down from Rs 68.93 to Rs 44.59 per litre. This adjustment has helped maintain the current price of diesel despite broader price pressures.

Officials said the levy restructuring was part of the government’s fiscal management strategy, although it brought only limited relief to gasoline consumers amid lingering inflationary concerns.

The government on Friday reduced the price of petrol by Rs 4 per liter while keeping the price of HSD unchanged for the next week, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Power.

He said the ex-depot price of petrol was reduced to Rs 377.78 per liter from Rs 381.78 per liter, while the price of HSD remained unchanged at Rs 380.78 per liter.

The latest adjustment comes after a series of fuel price revisions in response to fluctuations in international oil markets. Last week, the government reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 22 per litre, providing significant relief to consumers amid rising global energy prices.

Gasoline is used by motorcycles and cars. HSD is widely used in the transportation and agriculture sectors.
