- Lanterns“The first trailer was reportedly released at an invitation-only event.
- DC Universe TV Show Coming to HBO Max Around Mid-2026
- Its teaser could have a world premiere before the end of this year
It’s been a disappointing time for Green Lantern fans, especially in light of *ahem* the recent confirmation that Lanterns will not be released on HBO Max in early 2026.
But, to paraphrase the opening of the Green Lantern Corps Oath, better days are ahead for the DC Universe (DCU) TV show. And, with a new report confirming that its first trailer is not only locked, but was shown at an invite-only event, it might not be long before it goes live.
According to the famous Brazilian media Omelete, the first teaser of Lanterns received its world premiere during an HBO Max Upfronts presentation yesterday (November 25). The trailer was not leaked online, but the Omelete team was there and described what they saw. Potential spoilers follow for Lanternsso go back now if you don’t want anything spoiled ahead of time.
What does the first Lanterns teaser tell us?
According to Omelete, the teaser shows Kyle Chandler’s Green Lantern veteran Hal Jordan teaching Aaron Pierre’s newcomer John Stewart how to become an elite member of the intergalactic space police agency.
Later, the two are seen arguing, with Stewart trying to piss off Jordan by suggesting that he is a better Green Lantern and more effective at saving people. The preview also offers a brief glimpse of Jordan flying, as well as numerous shots of the American Midwest, which is the setting for this DCU Chapter One sci-fi mystery thriller series.
Elsewhere, Omelete reveals that a Green Lantern squirrel – yes, you read that correctly – is mentioned. DC comic fans don’t need me to tell them that this is probably a reference to Ch’p, an anthropomorphic rodent-like alien who is also part of the Green Lantern Corps. If Ch’p ends up being part of the discussion, it would be a perfect addition to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, which strives to bring DC Comics’ strangest and wackiest creations to life on the big and small screen.
Finally, Omelete says the trailer didn’t reveal the DCU’s take on the iconic costumes worn by the Green Lantern Corps. I expect a big reveal like this to be held back until the HBO TV Original debuts next year, so it’s not a big surprise that no costume teases were shown.
Hopefully, LanternsThe first teaser will premiere globally before the end of 2025. From what I’ve heard, DC Studios will be present at this year’s Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP), which takes place from December 4-7.
In the meantime, check out everything we know so far about Lanterns. Once you’re done, take stock of Lanterns‘ talented lead creative team and why one of its showrunners says it’s “as much a buddy cop show as it is a superhero show.”
