- A new “choose your own” Xbox Game Pass plan is reportedly in the works
- Windows Central says the new plan will allow users to personalize the content of their membership
- Xbox CEO Asha Sharma also teased a new Discord partnership
Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Xbox Game Pass plan that would allow users to choose the content of their subscription.
That’s according to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who says sources have told him the company’s long-term goal is to make the subscription service “more flexible.”
This would line up with what Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently said in a leaked memo to staff, in which she admitted the service was “too expensive” for gamers.

“In the short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation,” reads the message obtained by The Verge. “In the long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system, one that will take time to test and learn.”
Corden says a “choose your own plan” for Game Pass is in the works, where users could decide which content packages they want in their plan.
The idea, essentially, would mean that gamers could remove Cloud Gaming from their plan to reduce price, and even remove content like Fortnite Crew subscription service and add day one Xbox games instead.
Windows Central also points to Microsoft’s leaked “Duet” and “Triton” codenames for Xbox Game Pass, suggesting new packages are in the works.
Gamers have reacted to the report, with some sharing their enthusiasm for the potential change, while others suspect that Microsoft is “probably finding a way to charge you a little less money for a lot less content.”
“Please. I don’t need half the things I pay for,” one user said in a Reddit thread.
Another wrote: “Awesome! As someone not using these bonuses, I will benefit from these changes. »
The report also comes as the Xbox CEO announced a new partnership between Microsoft and Discord, writing on X/Twitter that they are “teaming up again” in an effort to “make Game Pass more flexible for our players.”
Game Pass Ultimate currently offers a month of Discord Nitro, so Xbox could look to evolve the offering.
The news comes after Xbox announced a price drop on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, as well as the removal of Call of Duty titles as day one deals.
Now, Game Pass Ultimate will cost $22.99 instead of $29.99 per month, while PC Game Pass will go from $16.49 to $13.99 per month.
