While the first trailer only teases what’s to come, it didn’t sit well with some fans thanks to the lighting changes.
The original 1998 film was known for its dark, brooding and gothic look, which seems to have disappeared in favor of muted pastels and so-called “Netflix Lighting.”

“This film that breaks the curse of color grading is incredibly ironic for many reasons”
A quick search on social media proves that if fans talk about the Practical Magic 2 trailer, they talk about “poor color grading”.
“Being the film that breaks the curse of color grading is incredibly ironic for so many reasons,” one fan posted on X/Twitter, with another agreeing: “I can forgive a lot, but pastels?”
“What happened to movies? Why do they seem so boring these days?” a third weighed in.

The new film, scheduled for release on September 11, already appears to have fallen victim to what’s called “Netflix lighting.”
This is described by No Film School as “a modern, digital-first aesthetic characterized by soft, low-contrast, evenly exposed scenes designed to look good on a variety of devices.”
Of course, a lot can change between the release of the full trailer and the distribution of the film itself. One thing is certain: Bullock and Kidman are going to give everything they have to promote the sequel.
