Timothée Chalamet’s mother reacts to his comment on the ballet

The “Marty Supreme” star received backlash for his comments about the performing arts earlier this year.

Timothée Chalamet’s mother is clearing things up after the actor’s viral comments about ballet and opera earlier this year.

Talk to People magazine at the American Ballet Theater Spring Gala on Wednesday, May 20, Nicole Flender set the record straight regarding rumors that Chalamet made a living in dance after an old clip of him appearing in a childhood ballet production resurfaced online to refute his criticism of the performing arts.

“Timmy didn’t take ballet class. My daughter did,” Flender explained, referring to actress Pauline Chalamet. She added that she and Pauline studied at the School of American Ballet.

“Timmy danced himself,” Flender, 68, said. “You know, he was a high school rapper, so he was doing his own thing.”

The clarification comes weeks after the Marty Supreme The star drew criticism during a February town hall with Matthew McConaughey as she discussed the future of movie theaters.

“I don’t want to work in ballet, or opera, or things where you’re like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even if no one cares about it anymore.’ All my respect to all the people of ballet and opera,” he said at the time.

Online reviews have pointed out Chalamet’s deep family ties to the New York City Ballet, where his mother and grandmother once danced.
