TNA’s KC Navarro talks Ultimate X match at Slammiversary

KC Navarro narrowly missed winning the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship at Slammiversary, but the moment was special nonetheless.

Navarro was able to compete with his mentor Amazing Red in the match. Red got the better of him in one of the best sequences of the match. Navarro also spoke about his struggle with vertigo as he attempted to climb the pillar to climb the rope and win the title.

“So this Ultimate “But this year was very special to me because Amazing Red was a part of it. A lot of people don’t know this, but it was based on feedback, Amazing Red was a big mentor to me my whole career. Someone that I looked up to. I mean, obviously me and him, similar in stature, you know, he did incredible things, no pun intended, incredible things in Division X, former Division X champion, and just being a part of his first game back, it was very special for me.

“I was really grateful that he and I were able to have some time in the ring too. I know it was very special for him too. I hope he comes back. It’ll be great. I think it’s awesome, cool to see him again. But it was very special for me. You know, Slammiversary last year, I came in with a torn ACL and I risked my career going into that ladder match against the Hardys, the Nemeths and the Rascalz. This year I came in with a brand new knee in Ultimate

Navarro added that battling his fear of heights is only part of the job.

“Yeah, I’m not a fan of heights and me and maybe it’s just because of the injury, right? Like maybe I was thinking too much, ‘Oh man, what if I get hurt.’ But I mean, that’s just me, man,” he said. “I just keep God first. I rely on adrenaline to get me through, because once the bell rings, I have no choice. I have to go for this belt.

“Once the bell rings and the lights are on, everything’s fine. But it’s just, I just have a strong mentality of knowing that this is what I’m supposed to do and I can’t think negatively. I have to go in positive and know that I’m going to come in healthy, leave healthy and maybe come out champion as well.”
