United States President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the eve of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Turkiye.
The 47th POTUS hilariously requested a “restraining order” against Meloni. After both leaders attended the summit, Trump used his own Truth Social platform and shared a photo of the Italian prime minister looking at him.
He captioned it: “EXTERNATIVE ORDER NEEDED.” The Italian Prime Minister has not yet reacted to this message.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto refused to respond to Trump’s message. In an interview with Italian channel Sky TV, Crosetto said: “I had no reaction. The main thing is to maintain relations with a key ally like the United States.”
He added that people come and go but relations between countries remain.
It comes after the two leaders exchanged heated remarks following the G7 summit in France, when the US president told media that Meloni had “begged” him to take a photo with her, a claim which was categorically denied by the Italian prime minister.
Meloni described Trump’s version of events as a “fabricated story.”
The fallout between the two appears to have sparked after President Trump criticized Pope Leo, who criticized Trump’s war on Iran and sharply criticized Trump’s anti-immigration crackdown.
