Trump shakes hands with the NCAA wrestling champions after the title fight

Some university wrestlers had their American moments on Saturday evening.

A few moments after Penn State wrestler, Carter Staroci, entered the story by becoming the first national champion champion in the NCAA history, he went to the Mat side seats in Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia to shake hands with President Donald Trump.

Starocci beat the Northern Iowa, Parker Keckeisen, 4-3, to win the 184 pound championship and its fifth title NCAA.

It is the first and perhaps the last time that a university wrestler achieves such a feat.

Staroci had a fifth year of eligibility after participating in the 2021 season when all the athletes had another year due to the Pandemic COVID-19.

Staroci coach Cael Sanderson also shakes the president’s hand on Saturday evening.

On Friday, other Penn State wrestlers talked about Trump who attended the event.

“It is a great honor for the sports sport,” said Josh Barr de Penn State. “The sports sport is in a place where he needs growth. He needs life and energy behind her, and President Trump brings it.”

Mitchell Mesenbrink told journalists on Friday that whatever politics, he thinks that Trump’s attendance would help improve viewers.

“We want to bring people to look at, right? We want people to look at the fight. We want people to channel, not just money, but the time of people, and attention is money. So, I think it’s cool. And I think if it was conservative or liberal, it would be really cool,” said Messenbrink.

“Democrat or republican, whoever he is, is the President of the United States. The head of the free world of our wrestling event is really cool when you think about it.”

The wrestling championships are back at the Philadelphia Wells Fargo Center for the first time since 2011, when Penn State has won everything. This launched a dominant race by the Nittany Lions who continues. They have now won 12 of the last 14 titles, including four in a row, after winning the team championship earlier on Saturday.

Trump met and celebrated a handful of other wrestlers after their championship victories.

The presence of Trump during the event brought a national projector to the sport of university struggle and an electrical energy to the building.

Trump entered the Wells Fargo Center and was greeted by a noisy crowd that sang “USA! USA!” A few fans hooked when Trump entered.
