Two FC members martyred in Bannu shootings

Two Federal Police (FC) personnel were killed after unidentified motorcycle-borne terrorists opened fire on them in Karam Garhi area of ​​Bannu, police and security sources said on Sunday.

The events occurred within the confines of the cantonment police station. According to police sources, the FC members were shopping in a local market when attackers suddenly opened fire on them. The attackers fled after the shooting.

FC sources identified the martyred personnel as Havaldar Rokh Niaz and Sepoy Rehmanullah, who were posted in Daryoba platoon. Following the incident, the FC and other security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Security personnel carried out strict checks at different locations, including snap checks, to trace the attackers. Aerial fire was also reported in the area.

Later, additional police contingents were deployed there. Authorities said they were using all available resources to apprehend those involved.

Police officials said the post had been non-functional and vacant since 2022, with no casualties. The attackers allegedly placed explosives under the structure, in the dark, before detonating them.

Law enforcement arrived on scene shortly after the explosion, cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence. A search operation was also launched to find those responsible.

Meanwhile, a Qaumi Jirga announced a strike of locks and wheel locks on April 20 (today). According to the jirga, the demands include reopening of blocked roads and withdrawal of cases registered against the former premises.

Bannu Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sajjad Khan expressed deep sadness over the martyrdom of the two FC members and said their sacrifices would not be in vain.

In a statement, he said anti-state elements were trying to destabilize the region through cowardly acts, but law enforcement remained fully vigilant.

He paid tribute to the courage of the martyred personnel, calling them heroes who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country. “The entire nation salutes their sacrifices,” he said.
