Police said the driver was taken into custody; he told investigators he fell asleep while driving, leading to the crash

A speeding dumper truck rammed into a police mobile van deployed for checking near Chakwal Pump on the Super Highway (Hyderabad-Karachi route) on Monday, killing a sub-inspector and a constable, police said. The driver was arrested.
According to police, a 22-wheel trailer hit the stationary police mobile during a routine check around 5:40 a.m., killing two police officers on the spot. A third officer survived the incident. The impact was so violent that the police vehicle was crushed and pinned under the trailer.
Police said the driver, identified as Shahabuddin, was taken into custody. In his initial statement, he reportedly told investigators that he fell asleep while driving, which led to the crash. Rescue 1122 and Edhi volunteers arrived at the scene with ambulances after being alerted. The traffic police also participated in the recovery operation.

Heavy machinery, including a crane and a lift, was used to dismantle the wreckage and recover the bodies of the mangled vehicle.
According to police, sub-inspector Sahib Khan, constable Parwarish and constable Wajid were on duty in the police mobile when the trailer hit them.
Sub-inspector Sahib Khan died on the spot, while constable Wajid was trapped in a critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries during the rescue operations. Constable Parwarish remained unhurt.
The bodies of the deceased personnel were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and a private hospital near Gadap town police station. Both were posted at the Gadap town police station.
