Meeting discusses cooperation on counter-terrorism, illegal migration, institutional collaboration and police training

British Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan Hamish Falconer on Wednesday said the recent rapprochement between the United States and Iran has projected Pakistan as a champion of world peace, according to an official document released after his meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad.
According to the document, Falconer praised Pakistan’s positive and proactive role in facilitating understanding between the United States and Iran. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir played a historic role in promoting peace.
Both sides discussed Pakistan-UK relations and the broader regional situation during the meeting.

Federal Ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Talal Chaudhry and Awn Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, Director General FIA, Commandant National Police Academy and DG NCCIA also attended the meeting.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, combating illegal immigration, institutional collaboration and police training, with both sides agreeing to further strengthen their ties in these areas.

Naqvi said Pakistan continued its indiscriminate actions against illegal migration and human trafficking, adding that the Upskill project had yielded positive results and strengthened the capacity of Pakistani institutions.
The two ministers also agreed to work together to resolve the problem of fraudulent student visas.
Addressing regional security, Naqvi said several terrorist organizations were operating from Afghanistan and stressed that the Afghan government must prevent its territory from being used against Pakistan.
The Interior Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthen its relations with the United Kingdom.
Falconer had also held meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
