Happy June everyone. I’m sure these words will irritate a few readers, but to be honest, I’ll take any federal holiday because it means we have time to enjoy whatever we want. I know not all companies observe it, but who doesn’t want a day off in mid-June? Today is even a little more special because we also have a World Cup match with the United States.
My very first soccer article was about the U.S. World Cup team, and not only did the team win, but we won. I was wrong about the final score, but I was right about the American team winning. They managed to defeat Paraguay. What I found most enjoyable about this match, apart from the victory, was that the crowd was really involved in the match. I know it’s easy when goals are scored and the team wins, but America is not a soccer country. So seeing the crowd go crazy and give the team more energy was fun to watch.

They now have a test against the Australian team. This should be a win for Team USA based on a recent match they played in an international friendly competition. They played in October, so the teams are largely the same. However, these games are not always predictive. In order to maintain this momentum, the American team will have to remain aggressive in its attack. If they can strategically push the ball downfield, they should get a good look at a goalkeeper who can be beaten.
The Australian team also had a good result in their first match, having won the first match against Turkey. I don’t hate the Turkish team. They also have decent talent. Some World Cup matches may simply be sidelined due to a huge time lag. This is not the case here. Australia were methodical in their attack and won the match 2-0.
PATRIOTISM IS GREAT, BUT MAKING MONEY IS BETTER: “FADE THE PUBLIC” IN TEAM USA AGAINST AUSTRALIA IN 2026 WORLD CUP

If you look at the stats from their first match, there are many arguments that Australia were lucky to win the match. They had half of Turkey’s shots on goal and only had possession 28% of the time. Thus, they were able to make the most of their opportunity. They committed 12 fouls compared to just four against Turkey. I suppose you have to give the Australian defense a lot of credit, given that they were able to stop all eight shots on goal, and if their opponent had the ball that often, that means they had to constantly stop the pressure.
If Australia can slow down the game against America, they might get another chance. I don’t think they’re the most impressive team in the tournament, but it looks like they’re not making many mistakes. Will the kangaroo clan be able to capitalize on American mistakes today?

It’s possible. The United States had an own goal to open the scoring, then scored two more in the first half. They created some great opportunities, but missed some. Their defense only faced one real attack and their goalkeeper stopped the ball. Australia need to be more aggressive than in the first game, but I don’t think that’s their nature. I expect Team USA to win, but I think it will be a lower scoring game. Give me the least 2.5.
