On May 26, we will know “the 26th”.

The United States men’s national team announced Thursday when the 26-player roster for this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup will be revealed at an event in New York.

American manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to bring in star players such as striker Christian Pulisic, midfield duo Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams and defender Chris Richards. Many other players from European leagues and the Major League will also be part of the team that will participate in this summer’s 48-team tournament.

The May 26 event will be broadcast live on FOX from 3-4 p.m. ET.

Of the 26 players who will participate in the World Cup, FIFA rules stipulate that at least three goalkeepers will be selected. Matt Freese and Matt Turner (who started the 2022 World Cup) should be two of those goalkeepers.

FIFA requires a provisional list of possible players – from 35 to 55 – by May 11. A second, smaller list with the final list must be submitted by May 30; If a player is injured before his World Cup match, he can be replaced up to 24 hours in advance by another player from the largest provisional list. Any player not included on the provisional release list and added to the final list must be approved by FIFA.
