- Valve has apparently released an “unboxing” video of the Steam Controller
- The music video was found via SteamDB
- It’s not playable yet, but indicates a launch could be imminent
It’s been a long time coming, but we finally received an update on Valve’s new Steam controller, which will come bundled with the Steam Machine – although it’s just a rumor.
As disclosed by Brad Lynch on X, Valve has uploaded an unboxing video of the Steam controller to Steam, which is viewable in the Steam client backend via SteamDB. However, the video itself is not yet playable and when attempting, a message states that “this video has not been processed for streaming.”
This revelation comes shortly after Lynch reported on public records of Valve’s imports, which show a “wireless PC controller” among the packages. These two clues make it seem like the Steam Controller will be arriving in the near future.

It’s worth noting that pricing for the controller and Steam Machine hasn’t been announced, but perhaps we’ll know the price of the former sooner than expected.
A separate version?
Unless Valve is secretly preparing its Steam machine for an upcoming launch, this video sighting seems to support recent speculation that the company is planning to release the Steam controller separately (before the PC arrives).
Regarding the prospect of an imminent Steam Machine launch, there is no indication that this is happening. And that seems like a distant possibility given that the RAM crisis is still being felt significantly in the PC hardware market, making things difficult for Valve in terms of pricing its console (and securing the components).
While it may still be too early for Valve to announce retail prices for the Steam Machine, we can hope that we can at least get an update on the potential release schedule.
Regardless, a separate launch of the Steam Controller would be good news for most PC gamers, even if it meant the controller would end up arriving months before the console it was designed for.
