Happy Independence Day everyone! Nothing speaks to independence more than the freedom to take our hard-earned money and devote it to a sport that most only watch every four years. We do it with the Olympics and we do it with the World Cup. We’ve had quite a few twists and turns and failures, but we’ve also had some solid wins. Let’s try to start again.
Canada vs. Morocco
This marks the start of the round of 16. There aren’t really many unbalanced matches in terms of odds anymore – we’ll talk about that in a moment. Instead, we should now have the best teams and strong matches. Canada versus Morocco is no exception. Canada is here after defeating Saudi Arabia. I haven’t seen much from our northern neighbors that has really impressed me. They’ve scored at least one goal in every game and had two shutouts, so there’s something to hang their hat on.

For Morocco, the task was much more difficult to achieve victory against the Netherlands. They won on penalties, and it was a wild shootout. They have yet to lose a match and only have one draw. This should be a close game, and a draw at +245 is where the value lies, in my opinion. I’m not going to tell you it’s a sure bet, but I think these two teams are a little more even, and neither seems to be super aggressive on offense. Give me the draw.

Paraguay vs. France
If you watched the Argentina game yesterday, you know that the lines don’t always tell you the whole story of how things are going to go. The Argentines were the big favorites and Cape Verde gave them everything they could. Argentina won 3-2, but it took them longer to get there. Paraguay has a chance to do it today against France. France is -1600 ahead, which means that even if it goes to penalties, France is still the big favorite. Paraguay beat Germany on penalties to bring their victory here. It was their best match of the tournament.

France seemed unstoppable. They remain the favorites to win the World Cup. If you’ve watched them, and even if you’re not a football fan, you’ll understand why. Kylian Mbappe has been dynamic and continues to rack up goals. He is a real threat to Messi and the Golden Shoe. He is -205 to score a goal today. I prefer his teammate, Ousmane Dembélé. I think a lot of attention is paid to Mbappé, Dembélé, who has already scored four goals in this tournament, receives less attention and looks easier. I’ll play it to score at +105.
