WWE star Kit Wilson had to undergo some character changes before appearing on “Friday Night SmackDown” again.

He lost his tag team partner Pretty Deadly to a serious injury and had to start his own singles run. Although the recent run has yet to result in any championships, he has managed to attract attention in a way that has never really been seen before on WWE TV.

Wilson’s gimmick calls out toxic masculinity among his fellow professional wrestlers. He reads poetry, writes in his journal, and warns against “toxic” superstars.

He told PK Press Club Digital that he thinks “things are getting better.”

“I feel pretty good,” Wilson said before WrestleMania 42. “You know, obviously, it comes from a sad place, it comes from a dark place, losing my tag team partner. He’s hurt right now. I miss him. I hope he comes back. But yeah, we’re on a trajectory right now. We’re on a singles run right now. Things are getting better.

“I feel more confident than ever. I’m more passionate than ever. I feel this fire inside me. And look, things didn’t go my way. I lost. I lost. I was cursed. I was cursed. I feel so good, I’m moving forward. I’m pushing to the top and I’m not stopping until I get to the top.”

Wilson’s character gained so much popularity that he was able to attract new fans.

The average sports fan who may not be interested in WWE or happens to tune in to SmackDown while the channels change was able to stop in and see Wilson in action.

“I think that’s something that’s very important to me. When I was starting out, I admired a lot of people who weren’t stereotypical people. I didn’t like the ‘bad a–‘ kind of guy, I didn’t like this bold, aggressive, angry man for no reason. I liked dynamic characters. When I first started on the independent scene in the UK, Noam Dar – who’s now in NXT – I admired him so much because I felt like I had a connection with him more.

“So for me to be able to play this specific character right now, this era of Kit Wilson, it’s pretty inspiring because who maybe sees himself through that because it’s not the aggressive, angry, ‘toxic’ stereotype, man, yeah, I feel really good about that.”

Wilson was not scheduled for a match at WrestleMania 42, but he appeared in a segment with John Cena, The Miz and Danhausen.

Unfortunately, Danhausen’s allies hit him in the groin.

Still, going from a mid-card singles competitor to being involved in WrestleMania in any capacity is a huge achievement in itself.
