No, Maryam Nawaz Sharif did not say that her government collapses

A video clip with thousands of views and interactions on social networks claims that the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, admitted to a recent televised speech that his government and the wider political configuration were on the verge of collapse.

The complaint is false.

Claim

On February 19, a Facebook user published a short clip by Maryam Nawaz Sharif with the legend: “Maryam Nawaz also realized that the end is near.”

In the video, Sharif is understood to say: “Thank God, this system is now in its end. My political opposition will continue, this is not a problem for me. But I will never forgive those who have injured my country.”

The clip has been viewed more than 467,000 times, shared more than 670 times and liked more than 4,700 times.

Another Facebook user shared the same video with the text: “The nation has taken its revenge to damage the country by ending you and your family’s policy on February 8 [national election]. Maryam Nawaz finally realized that the end [of her government] is close. “”

Do

The minister -in -chief’s remarks are distorted online. In the full version of the television speech, Maryam Nawaz Sharif does not refer to the collapse of her own government. Instead, she talks about the alleged fall of her political rivals, in particular Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI).

An inverse image and a search for keywords confirms that the video was cut off from a speech that Sharif delivered on February 19 when launching electric buses in Lahore.

In her 30 -minute speech, she criticized PTI for her role in the May 9 riots, blaming them for long -term damage to the country.

At 11:50 p.m. in the full video, Sharif says:

“What do you give to young people? Essence and collar bombs to break the heads. They have been doing it since 2010. They have destroyed Pakistan. God thank you that this system is now on the point of its end. My political opposition will continue, I will continue politics, this is not a problem, but I will never forgive anyone who has injured my country.”

Verdict: The video clip is shared out of context. Maryam Nawaz Sharif referred to Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf. She did not speak about her own government in Punjab or the position of her party at the federal level.
