This one image from Backrooms left me very disturbed.
As far as teaser images go, the one above was by far the most disturbing to me. We see Renate Reinsve standing in front of a house, which would be a pretty ordinary setting if it weren’t for the horrible yellow background we’ve come to associate with. Behind the scenes traditions.
At first glance, it’s easy to not notice that she’s actually in the Backrooms until you focus on that yellow color, when reality hits you. I’m very interested in the context of this scene and why they went for a suburban vibe here. Is it to trick the characters into thinking they are safe? Does anyone live here?
Take a look at the full set of images below, which were shared by IMDb via their Instagram.
The Backrooms Mystery is endlessly interesting because it’s so easy to go off and dive deep into what fans have written about it, expanding its story. We don’t know what, if anything, might be hiding here, which to me is the most disturbing thing.
Taking something ordinary and making it strange is an integral part of liminal horror, as is Exit 8which I gave a four star rating. Additionally, I interviewed director Genki Kawamura and learned why he is excited about the film. Behind the scenes movie.
The countdown is on for Behind the scenesand we don’t have long to wait as it hits theaters on May 29th. Are you brave enough to venture inside?
